Jin Xing started to show her interest being on the stage since she was little. She began to be trained in China, studied modern dance in America, and traveled to dance in Europe. After all of these experience, she has a good sense about modern dance. She always want to be a female. Then when she was 28 years old, she decided to do a trans gender surgery. She appreciates her mother, however, she respect her mind and life. Her left leg's nerve was damaged and she was told by the doctors that she was not able to dance any more, even walking was going to be a struggle. Then she went to oriental clinic to do the electrotherapy every day. She can walk and dance eventually but cannot jump as high as before. She loves to dance that is why she said if she knew the risk, she never would has done the surgery. She thought that is a difficult the life set for her. It makes her either stronger or weaker depends on if she could pass it. She went through the difficult, and then she thought because of that pain she went through, she deserves a better dancing future. She is really confident with her dancing skill and used to confess that she is one of the best modern dancers in China. However, the transgendered statue sometimes makes her feel kind of annoyed. She knows it takes time to make people understand that it is her personal choice to change the gender, what is more important is her dance. She change her gender is because she wants to explore her inner soul and be herself.
Modern dance in China is really a new style. The most popular dancing style in China is Chinese ethnic dance. China have 57 ethnic groups, and each of them has their own unique style of dance called ethnic dance, that is also the dance Jin Xing learned when she was a kid. However, even though the Chinese ethnic dance is different from modern dance, it gives beginning dancers a strong foundational background of dance. Jin Xing's dance company as the first independent modern dance company in China, it acts a huge impact for the dance development in China.

Jin Xing was born in a Korean ethnic family. Jin Xing has parents and one old sister. She always tells that her mother is very strict and her sister is always listen to her mother and nice to her.
Jin Xing met her husband on the airplan when Jin Xing back Shanghai From Paris. They sat next to each other, and started to talk about the Chihuahua Jin Xing held. Jin Xing told Heinz Gerd Oidtmann at the beginning that she is a transgendered women, and she has three adopted children.

"After you have kids, the way you choosing you husband or partner is different, you want the man responsible, also a good husband, of course good lover and same time as a good imagine of the father for the three children." Jin Xing said.

Jin Xing's career

Jing Xing is the first female transgendered artistic director of Chinese first independent comtemprary dance company, Jin Xing Dance Theater. (Scholarly Journey Article)

She is also one of the most unique talk show host with a lot of critical opinions. People called her "poison tongue" because she always pointed out problems directly.
She learned classical ballet in China at the age of nine.

At the age of 19, Jin Xing started to studied modern dance in America. She was influenced by Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, and Jose Limon.

Her first modern dance was "Half Dream", which described when she was framed at the jail in New York right before the American Dance Festival.

After six years of traveling in the western countries, she came back China started to train students and choreograph dance. The second modern dance was "Black and Red" that got the Ministry of Culture award. This award was the first time given to a contemporary dance performance. Jin Xing Dance Theater started in Shanghai in 2000. Before it moved to Shanghai, it was called Beijing Modern Dane Ensemble, which is the first modern dance troupe in Beijing. Then Jin Xing created "Shanghai Tango", "Carmina Burana", and "Shanghai Beauty". The solo dance choreography are "The Closest Future", "The China Project". She tried to combine modern dance and Chinese culture together to make more people interested in modern dance since modern dance just begin developing.

Why I like Jin Xing

I first heard Jin Xing's name is from her talking show "Venus Hit Mars", which talked about the social problems. I am a media personnel so that is why I am kind of interested. She is one of the very few honest hosts that I have seen on TV. "All we want to do is to show and talk about the truth to the public without judging anything, people have their own minds to think." she said. That is the social media's goal, however, some media or TV shows pointed too much directions for the audience that I am disappointed with.

 

 

Jin Xing is a 47-year-old women and been though a lot, all her experience makes her stronger and not afraid of speaking the truth out. In some cases, talking about social sensitive problems is not really good for the host's future career. However, she did, and no one said nothing.
 

Her hosting style makes her unique comparing to the others. Later on, I found her life experience and some of her dancing career achievements. I started to like her even though she is a trans gender.

 

Then I started to know that Jin Xing is a well known ballerina, modern dancer and choreographer.

Welcome to Jin Xing

Jin Xing (Chinese meaning: Venus) is a Chinese ballerina, modern dancer, choreographer, and owner of the contemporary dance company "Shanghai Jin Xing Dance Theater". She is also an actress and talking show host.

Jin Xing was born in an ethic Korean family on August 13th, 1967 in Shenyang, China. Her mother languages are Korean and Chinese.

At the age of nine, She joined the People's Liberation Army and became a member of the military's dance troupe.

 

At the age of 17, Jin Xing won the Champion of the national dance contest Taoli Cup and the best acting prize at the Nationwide Second Annual Dancing Contest. At the age of 20, she went to New York to study modern dance with the scholarship from the Asian Ca Ltare Counsel of America and American Dance Festival. She is the first Chinese dancer who got the scholarship from Asian Pacific Art Institute of America.

 

In 1984, she graduated from People's Liberation Army Art College Dance Department and attained the rank of colonel. 

In 1991, she was invited to be the choreographer of the American Dance Festival and won the best choreography prize with Banmeng (English: Half Dream). At the same year, she moved to Europe.

 

From 1989 to 1990, she has her own choreography show in Seoul, Korea and became a member of American Dance Festival International choreographing group.

In 1991, she was hired to be the chief choreographer of American Dance Festival and got the best annual choreography prize. She then was invited to choreography at the Italy TV channel One.

In 1992, she started Bai Feng (English: White Wind) in Belgium and held her own choreography show twice.

 

After a world tour, Jin Xing returned China in 1994. Then she was hired by the Art Department of China to start training nationwide modern dance dancers.

 

In 1995, she got the gender-reassignment surgery. 

 

In 1996, Jin Xing started Beijing Modern Dance organization with Beijing City Art Office and became Art Director. Then She successfully held modern dance show "Red and Black", "Sunflower", and "Drunken Concubine".

 

In 1998, the modern dance "Red and Black" won the Wenhua Prize by the Art Department.

 

In 1999, she started Shanghai Jin Xing Dance Theater.

 

In 2000, she moved to Shanghai, China.  

 

In 2001, she danced "Forever Present" with European dancers. On the Marcao International Music Festival, she danced for the song "Song of Temple Brown".

 

In 2003, She performed "Shanghai Tango" in China.

 

In 2004, her dance "Shanghai Tango " was danced in Europe. After that, she started to be well known by the public.

Currently, Jin Xing lives with her German husband and three adopted children in Shanghai, China. In order to support her dance theatre financially, she becomes talking show host. She still dances on the stage.
